Birgit Neumann is Professor of English Studies at the University of Passau and director of the Graduate School of International Cultural Studies. She is a member of the executive board of the German Society for 18th-century Studies. Her main fields of interest are British literary and cultural history, postcolonial studies, gender studies and narratology. She has published widely on British literature and space, fictions of memory, the rhetoric of nation in 18th-century media, narratology, postcolonial literatures, empire and British literature as well as on travelling concepts for the study of culture. Together with Jürgen Reulecke she is general editor of the series Forms of Remembering/Formen der Erinnerung (Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, since 2004).
